Why my mac was crashing...

Black lines on display precursor to crash

The executive summary was that it was too hot. I'd see little bits of graphic crap and then the UI would lock up. The mouse cursor would turn all different kinds of fruity colors.

How to fix this?

Cooling with Smcfancontrol

Monitoring with iStatPro

So far, so good.
